Time with the Waves (2024)

​

Yeomsup is the ritual of preparing the deceased for their final journey by washing the body and dressing it in burial garments. More than a funeral procedure, it is a symbolic act that marks the passage between death and a new beginning, a process through which one state of existence transforms into another.

​

This work begins with collecting broken pieces of driftwood and discarded objects from the seashore, painting them, and reassembling them into human-like forms. Shaped by waves, wind, and time, these fragments are given a renewed presence and stand once again as figures along the shore.

​

Like the act of yeomsup, caring for discarded and damaged materials and granting them a new form reflects the cycle of disappearance and emergence, loss and renewal. Altered by nature, these objects seem to acquire a new life, reminding us that all beings continuously change and move through cycles of transformation.

​

Time with the Waves is a reflection on beings that disappear and re-emerge within the flow of nature's time, and on the enduring possibility of hope and regeneration.

파도와 함께한 시간 (2024)

 

염습은 죽은 이를 씻기고 수의를 입혀 마지막 길을 준비하는 행위이다. 그것은 단순한 장례 절차가 아니라 죽음과 새로운 시작 사이를       잇는 의식이며, 존재가 다른 상태로 옮겨가는 과정을 상징한다.

이 작업은 해변에서 수집한 파손된 나무와 사물들을 채색하고 인간의 형상으로 다시 세우는 행위에서 출발한다. 파도와 바람, 시간을       견디며 떠밀려온 나무들은 새로운 모습으로 다시 태어나고, 해변 위에 선 존재가 된다.

죽은 이를 염습하듯 버려지고 파손된 사물들을 돌보고 새로운 형상을 부여하는 과정은 소멸과 생성, 상실과 재생의 순환을 담고 있다.      자연에 의해 변화된 사물들은 다시 생명을 얻은 듯한 모습으로 우리 앞에 서며, 모든 존재가 끊임없이 변화하고 순환한다는 사실을 보여준다.

​

이 작업은 자연의 시간 속에서 사라지고 다시 태어나는 존재들에 대한 이야기이며, 희망과 재생의 가능성에 대한 기록이다.
